Ghandharva* performs inspired instrumental pieces of music using an eclectic blend of international percussion instruments including the tabla, frame drum, balafon, doun doun, conga, djembe, berimbau, shekere, singing bowls and bells. They infuse the traditional music and rhythms of West Africa, East India, Brazil, and Cuba with the dynamics and attitude of Rock & Roll to create a refreshingly unique hybrid percussive sound that is meditative, as well as up lifting and intense.
Formed in the fall of 2002 by Chuck Wood and Arjun Alan Bruggeman, Ghandharva began performing in coffee houses and open mics all over New Jersey and the surrounding area. During this time they honed and crafted a unique sound which eventually led them to record their first full length self titled CD in 2003. Following the release of the CD they toured extensively performing in yoga studios and small theaters throughout the East coast. In 2005 they toured nationally and in the winter of 2006 began recording a follow up CD that has yet to be released.
Although Ghandharva is not performing at this time, they plan to release tracks started prior to Arjun joining Krishna Das. Recorded in a historic church in Middle Valley, NJ known for its great acoustics, the tracks contain special quests including Neal Casal, John Hummel, and Tim Carbone just to name a few.
